Please note: A bachelor's degree is required for eligibility to apply to medical school. The University at Buffalo MD program is restricted to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents. International students are not eligible to apply.
The PhD Programs in Biomedical Sciences provide an "umbrella" entry portal for most of our PhD programs. PPBS students complete fundamental courses and a series of laboratory rotations in the first year; at the end of Year 1 they "match" to a faculty mentor's laboratory and one of 10 participating PhD degree-granting programs. (Select Biomedical Sciences to see full list.) Students who wish to explore various research areas before deciding which PhD degree to pursue will benefit from this flexible model.
The PPBS is the only entry option for most of our PhD programs, with a few exceptions. The following programs will consider candidates with specific research interests for direct PhD admission: Biomedical Informatics; Computational Cell Biology, Anatomy and Pathology; Medical Physics.
